With only 6 hospitals per 100,000 residents, compared to a national average of 12 per 100,000, Wyoming faces significant capacity gaps in its healthcare system. Furthermore, the state's frontier counties, which account for 70% of Wyoming's land area, are characterized by limited access to healthcare services, poor health outcomes, and significant socioeconomic challenges. ... Wyoming's unique rural landscape and limited healthcare infrastructure make it an ideal location for studying cancer incidence and outcomes in frontier communities. Unlike neighboring states, Wyoming has a highly rural population, with 65% of residents living in rural areas, compared to 20% in Colorado and 15% in Montana.
