Summary

A U.S.-based funding opportunity is available to support research aimed at enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workplaces and educational settings for individuals with disabilities. This initiative encourages studies that identify barriers and develop solutions to foster inclusive environments in STEM fields.

The program offers various grant types, including research projects with budgets up to $1.5 million over five years, and synthesis projects up to $600,000 over three years. Additional funding mechanisms are available for exploratory and rapid-response research, as well as conferences.

Eligible applicants encompass U.S.-based institutions such as two- and four-year colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, for-profit entities with strong research capabilities, state and local governments, and tribal governments.

Collaborations between different types of organizations are encouraged to promote interdisciplinary approaches.

Proposals should incorporate key design elements, including the involvement of individuals with authentic disability experiences, clear identification of the disabilities being studied, specific STEM settings targeted, robust theoretical frameworks, and plans for assessing project success and disseminating findings.

The funding opportunity is open to applicants across the United States. The next proposal deadline is September 16, 2025, with subsequent deadlines annually on the third Tuesday of September. Approximately 10 to 20 awards are anticipated each year, subject to the availability of funds.
